  • Who We Are

    When a U.S. Navy ship needs repairs, they call us. Join our team as we keep the most powerful Navy the world has known afloat and ready to serve! The selected Marine Mechanic will serve as a Surface Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (SEMAT) program member. This position will be performing shipboard mechanical equipment maintenance and repairs on US Navy Surface vessels. This is a full-time position located in our Sasebo, Japan location.

    What You Will Do
    • Applies comprehensive understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignments.
    • Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others.
    • Performs a variety of complicated and non routine tasks.
    • Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
    • Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management.
    • Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.

    What You Must Have
    • Must have experience as a Shipboard Marine mechanical trades specialty with 4 or more years of shipboard maintenance and repair experience.
    • Must be able to read and interpret equipment and systems ship drawings and ship technical documents and manuals.
    • Must be competent in the use of mechanical equipment and tools in corrective repair efforts in order to accomplish ship repairs.
    • Must be physically able to climb and work on ships in an industrial environment.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance, base access, a SOFA (visa) status authorizing living and working in Japan, and be a US Citizen.
    • Start date contingent upon approved SOFA, LOA, background check, and base access, which are required for this position and continued employment.
    • position may require 11-25% travel. HII policy requires that all employees must be complete with their COVID vaccination to engage in business travel.
    • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related Marine mechanic experience.
    • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.

    Physical Requirements

    Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
